Placeshapers' #WeShare week 2019

This week has been Placeshapers’ We Share week. Placeshapers is a national network of over 100 community-based housing associations. As a member of Placeshapers, we sign up to the principles of putting our residents at the centre of what we do. Placeshapers members provide more than just landlord services, respond to local housing needs, and work closely with local authorities to shape places. As part of We Share week, we invited housing associations across the UK to Enfield Single Housing and Project 99 to see what we do.

Project 99 offers homeless 18-25 year olds a high-quality affordable home and a year of support from New Horizon Youth Centre; covering everything from emotional and mental health support to help with education and employment. On Monday, we welcomed Placeshapers members to contribute to the innovative work being done at Project 99 by planting with our grounds maintenance contractor John O’Conner.

On Tuesday, we gave Placeshapers members a tour of our Enfield office and single housing scheme. Enfield Single Housing is made up of over 300 flats across the borough of Enfield. These provide shared accommodation for formerly homeless single people. The accommodation consists of fully furnished bedrooms and a shared kitchen, bathroom, and communal living-room.

We Share week was also an opportunity to visit housing associations across the UK and learn new ways of working. On Wednesday, new Resident Engagement Co-Ordinator and our Digital Communications Officer joined colleagues from Shepherds Bush Housing Group and Red Kite Housing at Wandle to discuss effective approaches to writing and implementing policy.

Their Policy, Research and Data Governance Lead Iain shared Wandle’s approach to policy development and the importance of using Equality Impact Assessments to improve the inclusivity of policies. The key take away from the event was that the most effective policies are co-designed by colleagues and residents throughout development and implementation.

This week gave us the opportunity to share best practice and to be inspired by the work of other Housing Associations. Many thanks to Placeshapers and its members for hosting such an insightful series of events!
