St Pancras Housing Centenary

100 years ago the St Pancras Housing Society set down a visionary example for rebuilding and rehousing our communities. In 1920s and 1930s Somers Town a grassroots humanist ethos inspired the clearing of some of London’s most notorious Victorian slums and the construction of modern, dignified living spaces informed by values of sociality and solidarity. 

In June People's Museum Somers Town be launching their programme of events to celebrate the centenary year:

7 June: PANEL
Housing Is Not Enough / Not Enough Housing: Reimagining Social Housing Through St Pancras Housing
Panel discussion moderated by Prof. Esther Leslie that will ask what can we learn from the example of the St Pancras Housing Society, and what the state and role of social housing is today in cities shaped by four decades of neoliberalism.
Panellists: John Boughton, Ellen Peirson, Levitt Bernstein Architects, and Dr Elizabeth Darling.
 
15 June: WALKS
Walking Somers Town: People Need Routes/Roots
A series of guided walks introducing the radical histories of social housing and activism in a contested London neighbourhood. 

Saturdays in June: MURAL
Painting

Vinyl Club and People's Museum Anniversary

Join People's Museum Somers Town on Thursday 30 June for the second of their new retro vinyl nights, as well as the People's Museum's 2nd Anniversary! Enjoy a night of music, visuals and vibes, bring your own vinyls with you or just come along and hear what others have to share. On the last Thursday of every month, the museum will be opening up for members of the club to share all kinds of music, and discover some new favourites.
