Newly launched in September is a fascinating art heritage walking trail in the heart of Somerstown - artineverydaylife.uk provides an illustrated and narrated guide to the artworks on the St Pancras Housing Association estates in Somerstown. It can be accessed through QR codes on new plaques attached to the gates of the estates.
It’s been created by the Peoples Museum working with community architects Edit and artist Camilla Bliss who has created new street artworks which pay tribute to the symbolism in the works of Gilbert Bayes, the sculptor and ceramicist who created the estate artwork.
The Peoples Museum are doing brilliant work in preserving, promoting and bringing to life the history of Somerstown which is also the history of St Pancras Housing Association - including highlighting the cultural and political celebrities who have lived in the area in the past. Notably Mary Wollstonecraft - author of a Vindication of the Rights of Woman and mother of Mary Shelley author of Frankenstein.
The Museum’s work - which has been gathering pace and impact since it was established just a few short years ago - really is helping to generate a sense of pride in place for local people as well
as attract artists, academics and historians, as well as tourists/visitors to explore the area. Please donate if you can to aspaceforus.club
