Volunteering with us can be a great way to get involved in your community. Volunteering involves you spending some of your free time to help others, groups or the environment.
Volunteering can make a real difference to your own life and the lives of those around you. It is a way for you to share your skills with others, try something new, meet other people and have fun. Volunteering can give you the practical experience you need to help find paid employment or access further education. Giving back to your community can benefit the residents and make you feel more connected to the area.
How you can volunteer with Origin
Some examples of volunteering opportunities we have right now include:
- assisting on coach trips and at events,
- teaching digital skills,
- teaching arts and crafts,
- teaching fitness like yoga or Pilates,
- and many more.
Get in touch and we'll be sure to find use for your skill whatever it may be.
There are three main ways you can get involved in volunteering with Origin:
Origin Time Bank
A time bank is a volunteering barter system. One person with a particular skill can earn credits when volunteering and these credits can then be exchanged for work that the person needs doing, which in turn would be done by another volunteer in the time bank.
For example: Mary may volunteer by teaching John digital skills. The credits she earns, she may wish to spend with Matt, who will fix a shelf in her kitchen.
Origin's time bank is very popular; we already have over 150 volunteers working with us.
Joining our time bank is very easy. You need to contact us using the form below and we will get in touch with you to sort out the rest. You can volunteer as much or as little you want. Just tell us what you'd like to volunteer in (what you can do), what you would like to get help with from other time bankers and what time you are available.
Not interested in exchanging? That’s fine too! You can still share your time and skills. You can donate your time bank credits and we will use them to help people who need it most - like elderly people who are not able to volunteer themselves.
One-off Volunteering Opportunities
We recognise that life can be very busy, and you don’t always have the time to make a regular commitment.
One-off volunteering is a good way of trying things out to see if you want to get involved again.
We have lots of fun one-off events throughout the year so we're always in need of enthusiastic new volunteers to help at community events, road shows, or to offer their skills as photographers, face painters, gardeners and lots more.
To register for one-off events, all you have to do is to fill out the online form.
Companies love working with us on volunteering projects. It's a brilliant way to boost their corporate social responsibility (CSR), engage their workers, build team spirit and give them the warm and hugely rewarding feeling that they've genuinely helped another person.
Most recently we've worked with Francis Crick Institute and Wellcome Trust, who helped prepare our Cream Tea Boxes and Christmas hampers. Also, we have an ongoing partnership with the Government Digital Services at the Cabinet Office who volunteer at our job hubs, helping people to get to grips with technology.
If you're interested in how your company can volunteer with us, please get in touch.
