The Mayor of Harrow, Councillor Nizam Ismail, officially opened Origin Housing’s latest affordable housing development on Boxtree Lane on Tuesday 9th October 2012, unveiling a bench in the central courtyard for residents’ use. This new development, designed by Harrow based architects, Yoop, provides 14 properties available for social rent.
Guests at the opening, who included Local Councillors and residents of the development, heard presentations form The Mayor and Origin Housing. The Mayor commented, “During my time as Mayor so far, I have had over 220 engagements, but this is the first time I have opened a housing development – which demonstrates the shortage of housing in the Borough. I am very pleased to see that Origin have created these much needed new homes for social rent. I am particularly impressed with the size of the units- which include a 6 bed house, great family accommodation.”
Councillor Bob Currie, Housing Portfolio Holder for the London Borough of Harrow, added, “I have seen a vast improvement in the site over the recent years, and am very impressed with the end result, and really like the look of the building.”
Located on the site that once housed the derelict Boxtree Pub, Boxtree Lane offers 14 social rent homes, including 4 family houses and 10 apartments. The architecturally designed contemporary building incorporates passive design principles. Further energy performance installations including Photo-voltaic cells will increase environmental performance up to Level 3 of Code for Sustainable Homes. Many of the homes come with impressive private terraces, with the houses all offering a private garden.
