Living centre partnership to improve health for Somers Town

19/05/2016

We are delighted to announce our partnership role within the Living Centre at the new Francis Crick Institute due to open to the public during January 2017 in Somers Town.

The striking image of the Francis Crick Institute now greets everyone leaving St Pancras Station and will become the largest biomedical research centre in Europe once finished in summer 2016.

The Living Centre will focus on health-related projects, working exclusively with the community in Somers Town.  A range of services will be developed with residents to complement successful services already on offer in the area.

The excitement is building as plans come together for the launch of the living centre with Dr David Roblin, Chief Operating Officer at the Francis Crick Institute commenting “We very much look forward to working with the Living Centre partners on such an exciting project."  The partners include: us, the Somers Town Community Association as lead, Healthwatch Camden, Citizens Advice Camden, Voluntary Action Camden, Age UK Camden, Hopscotch Asian Women's Centre and Training Link.

Head of Community Development here at Origin Housing, Jon Foster is leading on the project and commented: “We’re incredibly excited about the Living Centre – working with such forward-thinking partners, in a great building, inside a world-class medical research institute, to address health and wellbeing issues in not just this neighbourhood but the whole city is a great opportunity. Somers Town can only benefit from this, and we can’t wait to see that happen.”

The partners are currently recruiting a Mobilisation Manger to lead the set-up phase of the new centre. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of the first new community facility to be built in the neighbourhood for generations. Full details and the application pack are available on the Guardian Jobs website.
