Case study: Richard is an Adaptation Co-ordinator in Camden
“I usually start work between 8.30 and 9.30 am, and often go straight to our Care & Support office. It’s based in Camden which makes it easy to get around to visit my customers who are mainly in the area. The first thing I do when I come in is check my diary for appointments for the day, I can often see a few people in a day, so I try to be organised from the start!
“Once I’ve picked up my post and checked my emails, I start work on the recommendations for aids and adaptations to our tenant’s properties. These recommendations come from our customer service centre, neighbourhood management team or occupational therapists and can be anything from needing a grab rail in a bathroom or a stair lift.
“After looking at the recommendation I contact the tenant to arrange a visit or explain what will happen next.
“Often I’m out and about at tenant’s houses during the day, assessing the problem and deciding on the best way forward. Once I’ve completed the assessment I’ll liaise with contractors and our admin team to organise funding and monitor work quality.
“Its great to see the difference these adaptations can have on someone’s life. After arranging funding for a stair lift and wet floor for an older tenant, the lady has been able to live more independently, she told me the amount of energy she has saved following the work means she can get out and about more, improving her quality of life no end.
“One of the best parts of my job is working with people from all different departments across the organisation. Although I’m the one who gets it in the neck if the work is not completed on time the process of installing aids and adaptations is a real team effort!”
